A Kaleidoscope Shift
for Your Academic Life

What tiny shifts could make a big difference in your daily life?  In this 60-minute, 1:1 coaching session, we will explore the landscape of your current academic life, locate where simple kaleidoscope shifts could bring more spaciousness, and anticipate strategies for barriers you might encounter during the semester.

Your Kaleidoscope Shift coaching session is $75, and you can expect:

  • A workbook with my super-special, focused exercises for assessing your experience of different aspects of your academic life

  • An honest and gentle conversation about what matters to you and what you want from your academic life right now

  • A unique-to-you collection of tiny shifts to try out for a more satisfying semester.

It is possible to emerge from overwhelm, to release the academic grind, and to make time for what matters. You can do this on your own with reflection and intention! And if you'd like support for making meaningful change in your academic life, let's work together to find the kaleidoscope shifts that work for you.

Welcome!
I'm Karen.

Coach, Art Historian,

Associate Professor.

Do you love your work but feel pulled in all directions?  I get it!  As academics, we juggle so many different kinds of labor, responsibilities, obligations, and commitments.  Making space for what matters sometimes feels impossible.  The start of the semester is a perfect time to get curious about the aspects of our lives that we have the power to change.

I support faculty who want to re-imagine their academic lives.  My  coaching is rooted in my experience as an art history professor at a liberal arts college, where I have navigated the tenure track, taught my heart out, published a book, served as a campus leader, and become a mom.

Higher education can be a brutal place.  And yet, it has the potential to be flexible and fulfilling - a life's work to be proud of.   I’ll help you figure out how to get closer to what you want most this semester, whether that's slowing down, re-connecting to your full self, reclaiming what you love about your work, shifting your relationship to time, making space for rest, or whatever matters most to you.

What to Expect

Together we will:

  • Map the landscape of your academic life:  what is working well, what is a struggle, and hat is just meh

  • Consider how you want to feel and who you want to be this semester

  • Surface your needs, desires, and what matters most to you in the coming semester

  • Brainstorm tiny and totally do-able thoughts and actions for building a more fulfilling academic life

  • Strategize how to sustain your tiny shifts when things get tough

We will not:

  • Make unrealistic assumptions about workload and productivity

  • Get preoccupied with perfectionism or "getting it right"

  • Plan to continue the academic grind

  • Put our “To Dos” before our humanity
